Multi award winning jewellery designer Rachel Entwistle creates luxurious narrative jewellery infused with significance and meaning. Inspired by culture, symbolism and the arcane, the designs connect the wearer to something intangible and timeless and yet grounded in a deep sense of history.
Drawing on ancient concepts of amulets, talismans and protective symbolism, whilst embodying the urban culture of her East London surroundings, Rachel creates distinctive, beautifully made and covetable designs for a modern tribe.
Each piece is crafted by hand in her Shoreditch based studio using a combination of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship - the team work like modern day alchemists turning metal into magical designs. Rachel works with precious metals, bronze and gem stones and uses ethically sourced and recycled materials where possible.
Ever the intrepid traveller, Rachel's background with a BA in Cultural Studies from the University of Leeds took her on work adventures that included social, and environmental projects in London and around the globe. She has spent long periods of time immersed in the ancient practices of Mexico, villages of Central America and the esoteric wilds of India and it is those experiences that have deeply influenced her philosophy and designs. She began her jewellery journey in Mexico where she studied Jewellery Design and Manufacture at the University of the Arts and later returned to London to hone her bench skills at Holts Academy in the jewellery quarter.
Her anthropological fascination with symbolism, body adornment and mythology traces mankind’s history and search for meaning through ideas, culture and religion.
Since launching her eponymous label in 2011 she has exhibited at London and Paris Fashion Week and counts Paul Smith, ABC New York and Urban Outfitters as key stockists. Her designs have been featured in Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Dazed & Confused and Marie Claire amongst many other style pubications. She counts Keira Knightley, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes and Russell Brand as private customers and her designs have been spotted widely on the likes of Rita Ora and FKA Twigs.
