At Rachel Entwistle, our commitment to sustainability is woven into the very fabric of our business. We believe in creating jewellery that not only celebrates artistry and craftsmanship but also respects our planet and its people. Our journey towards sustainability is guided by the RE model, which encapsulates our core values and drives our initiatives.
We are dedicated to nurturing personal connections with our artisan partners and team members. Our relationships extend from our talented female led London based studio team to skilled craftspeople in the historic jewellery quarter of Hatton Garden, and further to Jaipur, India. By ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions, we support a network that values traditional techniques and promotes ethical growth.
Understanding the lifecycle of materials is crucial to sustainable thinking. All our jewellery collections are crafted using certified recycled silver and gold, sourced from suppliers who share our environmental ethos. In London, we use ECO gold and silver bullion, while in Jaipur, our partners provide 100% recycled silver certified by SCS Global. Our recycling scheme offers customers the opportunity to turn in their unwanted jewellery in exchange for credits, ensuring these materials continue to circulate rather than contribute to waste or unused resources.
Our innovative trade-in program encourages customers to transition their gold vermeil pieces to solid gold, a sustainable choice due to its durability and lifelong value. Solid gold’s enduring nature ensures it withstands the test of time, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This practice not only breathes new life into old pieces but also lessens the demand for new resources. Returned items are refurbished in our studio and resold at a discounted price, allowing another customer to enjoy the renewed piece.
Longevity is a cornerstone of sustainability. At Rachel Entwistle, we emphasise the importance of caring for and maintaining your jewellery to extend its life. Our comprehensive repair services, including chain mending, stone resetting, and gold replating, ensure your pieces remain cherished for as long as possible. By choosing to repair rather than replace, we help our customers maintain their treasured jewellery, reducing waste and fostering a more sustainable relationship with consumption.
Efficiency and resource conservation are at the heart of our production model. By operating on a small batch and made-to-order basis, we significantly minimise overproduction and waste. This approach ensures that each piece is crafted with care and precision, reflecting the true value of artisan jewellery. Our packaging also reflects our sustainability mission, utilising recycled and recyclable materials, and eliminating plastics.
Our partnership with One Tribe amplifies our impact, with a portion of each purchase protecting rainforest ecosystems and mitigating carbon emissions. Ethical sourcing remains a non-negotiable aspect of our operations. We proudly offer the use of Fairtrade gold in our bespoke creations, aswell as recycled gold supporting miners who are treated with dignity and afforded fair compensation. We aim to inform and empower our customers, highlighting the importance of responsible consumer choices.
